The Decameron

《十日谈》

"Mr. Wang Yongnian is proficient in many foreign languages such as English, Russian, Spanish and Italian, and translates many masterpieces of world literature. He translated The Decameron, The Liberation of Jerusalem and The Testament Couple from the original Italian, being the first person in China to translate The Decameron from the original text."

“王永年先生精通英文、俄文、西班牙文、意大利文等多种外语,翻译多部世界文学名著。他从意大利原文翻译《十日谈》、《耶路撒冷的解放》和《约婚夫妇》,是中国从原文翻译《十日谈》的第一人。”

"The Decameron is the first realist masterpiece in the history of European literature. It begins with a prologue that recounts the events of ten young men and women who take refuge in a villa in the countryside against the backdrop of a plague in Florence. Each of the ten young men tells a story each day, making a total of one hundred stories over ten days, hence it is named The Decameron. Each story varies in length and content, but the humanist idea is the main thread that runs through the book."

“《十日谈》是欧洲文学史上第一部现实主义巨著,作品开头有个序曲,叙述了在佛罗伦萨瘟疫流行的背景下,十名青年男女在乡村一所别墅里避难时所发生的事情。十个青年每人每天讲一个故事,十天共讲了一百个故事,故取名为《十日谈》。每篇故事长短不一,内容包罗万象,而人文主义思想是贯穿全书的一条主线。”
